The Swiss Zoological Society

The Swiss Zoological Society, SZS, was founded during the last years of the 19th century in connection with the Revue Suisse de Zoologie. It aims at promoting and stimulating original scientific research in all fields of zoology, at facilitating the interaction among particularly young zoologists, and at supporting the publication of new findings. The SZS is open to all persons from all countries interested in zoology, and is a member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences.

Every winter (February) the SZS holds its annual two-day scientific and organizational meeting, together with the Swiss Botanical & Systematics Societies, at one scientific institution in Switzerland. The main topics vary from year to year, but the interest in evolution, ecology and behavior prevails. The conference includes the annual business meeting and a dinner in honor of Charles Darwin's birthday.

Membership benefits:

  • register for the annual meeting at the cheaper member price
  • active student members may apply for travel grants to attend international conferences
